In year four we learn through topics using a cross curricular approach. The children enjoy this as they get the most from their topic by learning about it through many different subjects. The children are able to develop and apply their reading, writing, maths, science and ICT skills within their topic work. Our topics include: Ancient Egypt, Rainforests, The Rotten Romans and En La Cafeteria (our Spanish topic). We use role play areas for all our topics, for example a Rainforest, a mummification room, a Roman Fort and a Spanish cafe. Within the role play areas, the children develop their maths, language, writing and creative skills. Each week, we visit the Wildlife Area, participating in a variety of outdoor learning activities.
